Recommended Asset file size

Modified on Mon, 15 Mar, 2021 at 4:52 PM

For all asset types it is recommended to keep the overall file size as small as possible. This will ensure that end-users have a great downloading experience as well as minimise mobile device storage usage.

A few tips & tricks:

Images
Reduce image sizes, rather than down-scaling images. JPG images have in general a lower file size than PNG images.

Videos
  • should be compressed to
    • 480x320 or 640x480 (review to determine between better quality and lower file size) for myINTERACT
  • The format should be .mp4. This can be achieved with HandBrake, a free cross-browser video conversion tool.
  • Alternatively, for very large videos, these should be streamed, rather than included in the asset itself.

PDFs
Optimise PDFs using tools such as the professional version of Adobe Acrobat

Resources sharing
Whenever possible, share resources between pages in HTML and SmartPDF assets.

Tile images
Tile images in myINTERACT should be JPG images
